In one medium to large pot:
Cook:
One diced onion
Diced Peppers
1 lb lean ground beef or lean ground chicken
Once beef/chicken cooked, add seasonings
1 tsp onion powder
2 tsp garlic powder
1.5 tsp salt
1 tsp paprika
1 tbsp chili powder (use less if your family prefers a milder taste)
Then add everything else:
1-2 tbsp of tomato paste
1 can kidney beans (drained and rinsed)
1 can black beans (drained and rinsed)
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can crushed tomatoes
1 tbsp sugar (brown if you have)
Splash of beef broth (Optional 1/4 to 1/2 cup)
Simmer for at least 30 mins. Can leave to simmer for a couple hours.
Prior to serving add additional toppings if you want: cottage cheese, grated cheese, Greek yogurt, avocado, fresh herbs, etc.
